The past two months has been quite the blur for me because everything has been happening so fast that I forget to breath sometimes. Not so long ago, I was just another blogger in Cape Town looking from the outside in. I know that when you are in that position it may seem like those on the inside have it all going on but the truth is, I am STILL finding my way and I learn something new everyday.

The most interesting thing that I have noticed is that even though I stuck to a certain formulae that is associated with bloggers, I found that I wasn’t really being true to myself or brand. I tried to be like everyone else but as soon as I let go and started to be myself, people appreciated it so much more. I started to feel more connected to my followers instead of just posting something and hoping it would generate some sort of attention that would enhance my validity and secure my spot as a ‘blogger’. At the end of the day, I am trying my best to be authentic and open so that there isn’t a wall between me and my followers but rather an open line of communication in a public space where we all just exist as people that have a love for similar things.

There are so many bloggers that I have and still look up to because they are a part of the reason why I started doing what I do. The mistake people make is by comparing us and not realizing that we are all individuals just sharing what we love through our own interpretation and if you can relate then cool and if not then you will find someone that you can relate to. So.. my advice if you are looking to start a blog and you feel that you are not good enough or your content won’t be interesting then you really need to start believing in yourself because EVERYTHING in life begins with you. You have to believe that you are capable of greater things and always remain humble because it can all be taken away in an instant.

About this look:

To be honest, when I first bought this jacket, I was more drawn to the bright yellow colour more than its practicality. However, I have found that I reach for this jacket more than I would any other. This jacket literally has the ability to brighten my day because it is so playful and youthful. Somewhere along the way, I started to wear less bright colours but as mentioned in my previous posts, if you are scared of wearing colours then just try wearing it in small doses.

I decided to pair this bright yellow jacket with an all black ensemble simply because I feel the jacket speaks volumes on its own. I wore the belt on the outside of my jacket because I wanted to create some shape because both the jacket and dress are quite shapeless. These classic buckled belts have really been trending lately and can pull any outfit together beautifully.

I have also been living in these rain- boots from Queenspark because they literally go with EVERYTHING and they are so comfortable. I was so tempted to get one in every colour but I knew that I would have ended up only wearing these boots so I just restricted myself to getting a classic black pair.

Lookbook Street style Let's talk

Shelflife peak, Forever 21 body-suit, Topshop skirt, Sportscene sneakers

I became motivated by these images to write this blog post because when one thinks about Nike, you automatically think, ‘Just Do It’ and with every year that goes by, I feel like I could have accomplished more but I intend to change that this year. The trick is to ALWAYS keep a positive state of mind, even when something shitty happens. This starts by surrounding yourself with those who support your visions and your goals and letting go of those who do nothing but cast a shadow on your light. I like to keep my circles small, not that I’m not open to meeting new people but because I’ve been burned too many times by caring too much about the opinions of others and compromising my personality trying to satisfy others. One of the best ways to work on personal development is to change your outlook on life and over time develop an attitude that is stable and conscious.

I know that some of my readers feel stagnant and are currently in a state of limbo when it comes to progression in their lives. We have all been there and sometimes I feel like I have no clear direction or path or things are moving slowly but when I talk to others, I always get congratulated on my progress. So why don’t I congratulate myself? The trick is to acknowledge your achievements but not congratulate yourself too much because I find that one becomes comfortable, the process of progression takes longer. Stop blaming others for the problem. The natural reaction as human beings when there is a reversal of any kind is to blame someone else. Sometimes you cant control what happens to you but you can control your reaction towards it and when things go south, everyone is watching you to see how you behave and your reaction also determines how people feel about you.

One of the ways in which I have started to take over my mind and my thoughts is to read. I always use to love reading but as social media started to take over, the only thing I have been reading lately are hashtags. Feed your mind and use your imagination. By reading, you gain perspective and the ability to think differently and in doing so, you’re actually feeding your mind something nutritious. To change your life, it all starts with the mind. Just some food for thought.

About this Look:

I’ve always been a sneaker gal and you would know this if you followed my social media accounts in the earlier days. There’s something about sneakers that allow you to be yourself, confident and relaxed. I feel I can accomplish more in a day if I feel comfortable and sneakers always allow me that comfort. These particular pair of sneakers have a thick base so it gives me some height too so when wearing with a pencil skirt, I don’t feel, as I would say, ‘dumpy’. I also love to my match my sneakers with a piece of clothing I’m wearing and in this case, it’s the skirt. Sometimes it can be cheesy to do this but I just find that it ties the whole look together. Paired with a grey NY peak and striped body suit, it creates the ultimate casual-chic look.

This post is going not going to be like my typical posts because I am going to attempt to invite you into my personal orbit of thought that runs through my mind on a daily basis. As we know, social media has come to play various roles in our lives whether we invite it into our lives or not. However, I don’t think social media itself is the problem but rather the way we choose to utilise it.  Social media becomes dangerous when we use it as tool to determine our self-worth. Some use social media as a tool of creating their ‘ideal-self’.

I did this post because I think it’s important to share with my readers all realms of my personality. To be honest, If I am not attending an event or if it is not required of me to ‘dress up’, then this would be my ‘go-to’ look simply because I feel most like my authentic-self in it. If you know me personally, you would also know that I don’t take myself too seriously. I’m always cracking jokes or just trying to lighten the mood and I feel that your clothes should allow you to be yourself, always. Some people may think that if they are dressed a certain way, then they are restricted to act a certain way. Why? You should be comfortable enough in what you are wearing to just be yourself. This is where I feel social media, especially Instagram effects the way people act and interact when in public. We spend so much time constructing a certain image of ourselves that we feel it needs to be maintained even when in public and putting a ‘filter’ on our lives. If anything, social media is useful in socially constructing yourself but where is the line? Balance is important and admittedly it’s taken me a while a achieve balance between my social media life and my real life. If you follow me on Instagram, then you would have noticed that I have started to post more light-hearted posts in a sense when I showcase my humorous side so if you’re having a bad day, I’d like to think that it brings a little smile to your face.

About this location:

I chose this location because the beach is one of the places where I go to put everything into perspective when I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed. There’s just something about the beach that makes me feel that there is something bigger than you and I out there and almost comforts me. Sometimes, we tend to forget that the world doesn’t revolve around us and there is more out there. If you have a place that you feel grounds you, then make an effort to go there and just ‘be’.
