GIVEAWAY| FOUR INGREDIENTS TO A HEALTHIER ME

When we think about being ‘healthier’, we associate some sort of effort with it and a drastic change in lifestyle. Although it is a change in lifestyle, it is also a change in mindset and day-to-day habits that has led you to believe that you are not living as healthy as you could be. For me, when I think about being healthy, I associate it with much more than what goes into my body but what I project onto the world too. You see, if you project positivity, the likelihood of you receiving it back is greater than if you were to project negativity.

When looking to gain a healthy lifestyle, you have to look at your own personal life and choices because my approach may not be the same to yours and that’s okay. So, I’m going to share four ways I plan to stay healthy!

  1. Eat breakfast!

I was never really one for breakfast and that would usually affect my entire day. It boosts your metabolism and for me, helps to subside some of my sweet tooth cravings.I really want to get into the habit of having a good breakfast each and every morning! For breakfast, I usually go for a nice full bowel of ingredients consisting of nuts, rolled oats, wheat flakes and raisins. I usually have far less yoghurt than in the image, but hey! I had to take a cool pic for you guys! As you guys can see, I used four key ingredients for my breakfast. Can you see the pun? I want to find more healthy and yummy breakfasts that I can incorporate into my daily routine so that it doesn’t feel structured because we usually associate diets with that of structure.

2. Doing what you love or find a hobby. 

I am so lucky to be doing what I love but if you have a job that doesn’t allow for much creative stimulation then you should do that just to keep your sanity. For me, I am going to try and focus more on my photography and taking more creative images. I’ve always loved photography and it goes hand in hand with my career so that’s always a bonus!

3. Exercise. 

For some of us, this is the last thing we want to be doing but start off in light doses. Maybe go for a walk on the beach or take advantage of that first free trial class to that yoga class and see if its something you would be in to. For me, I would like to focus on my running so I have entered a half marathon and I want to beat my previous record. When starting something, it’s always good to give yourself a goal. I have given myself a goal because it’s easier motivation.

4. Quality time with the RIGHT people.

I’ve always liked to surround myself with positive people because it definitely affects your progress in life. Sometimes we don’t realize that people are toxic but this is so damaging to your mental health and can impact the way you think and your habits that you adopt. Never surround yourself with people that bring you down or belittle your aspirations so I am definitely lucky to have the best people and I want to continue to attract positive people into my life. It’s easier to achieve your goals when you surround yourself with people who have a similar positive mindset to you.

Have you ever felt like your dreams were TOO big? Yea, I know the feeling. Honestly, If you told me a year ago that I would be  where I am today then I would have never believed you. However, if you were to tell me where I might be in a year from now, then I might just believe you. What changed? Seeing is believing – that’s what. I had to witness what I was truly capable of to say that I can accomplish ANYTHING I put my mind to and the same applies to you.

So fitting to this post, I thought I would list some of the things that I NEVER thought I could accomplish but I did and PLEEEASE feel free to do the same by commenting on this post. I’d love for us all to inspire each other and look to each other for some source of motivation because I am sure there are some of us that just need a little push in the right direction.

  • I never thought I could run marathons.
  • I never thought I could do public speaking.
  • I never thought I would be good at makeup.
  • I never thought I would move out of my moms house so young and be independent.
  • I never thought I would be as dedicated to gym and fitness as I currently am.
  • I never thought I would be in magazines.
  • I never thought I could have the courage to break up with a toxic friend.
  • I never thought I would still be alive after pranking my mom so much! haha

About this look

I think that along with the Cape Town Bipolar weather lately, this outfit is perfect for a reasonably sunny day but you are still prepared if it storms which is likely to happen in Cape Town. I am literally wearing all my favourite purchases and what I love about it is that it can be worn in so many different ways. If you follow me on Instagram, then you would have noticed that I have recycled these items quite a few times. I decided to add this statement necklace because the look is reasonably simple and it matches the detailing of the belt amazingly. I have also been obsessed with my cape from Witchery. The perfect transition piece to Autumn. I think our outfits describe our relationship perfectly, simple with a bit of spice.

I don’t think there’s a better feeling than to walk hand in hand with your partner whilst feeling confident in what you’re wearing because as a couple you feed off each others energy instinctively. Let’s face it, everything looks better x2 so why not combine your creative-fashion juices with your significant other? A couple that looks good, feels good TOGETHER. It also creates a different kind of unity that is not of a competitive nature but rather one that continually grows and develops together. The nice thing about dressing fashionable with your partner is that they genuinely want you to look good. There is no underlying agenda that secretly doesn’t want you to look better than them as you would find in some ‘friendships’. If you have a friend that never wants you to look ‘better’ than them then this is not a friend, TRUST.

A true partner would also want you to always look your best and not want to dull your shine in the fear that others will find you appealing. If this is the case then an insecure partner can only lead to unnecessary fights and paranoia. On a side note, I believe that couples can complement eachother but I’ve never been the type to dress exactly like my partner. I think that you can extract some elements from your partners outfit but you should still stand as individuals in your personal style and preferences without eclipsing the other.

If your partner doesn’t really have a sense of style then here a few tips that could help with this ‘situation’.

Fit is Key

Whilst some guys don’t really care too much of the fit of a particular piece of clothing, it can truly make the world of a difference. With guys, it is not so much what you are wearing but more so ‘how’ you are wearing it.

Don’t change him

Whilst you are a fashionista and your man is not. Don’t treat him like a personal project and force him to wear something he is not really comfortable wearing. It’s normal for couples to ask for eachothers opinion when buying clothes so when the opportunity presents itself, instead of demanding what he should buy, rather use your knowledge to give your advice. It’s seldom that your partner will buy something they know you’re not really into because let’s face it, we want to look good for eachother. Naturally, over time he will find his own style along with your help.

Embrace your monster

If it so happens that your guy does find a love for fashion, don’t use this opportunity to become insecure or ask him ‘who he is trying to look good for’. YOU! He is trying to look good for you! So appreciate his efforts when he does try and don’t become jealous or insecure when he does start to take a little more pride in what he wears.

The best part about being in a relationship is that you are never alone when dealing with things. As a couple, you are constantly feeding off each others habits and energy so when starting a new relationship, it’s important to form these positive habits early on. So here are a few tips on how to get started:

Always Do It Together.

If you are in a relationship and you are the only one trying to get fit then the chances are that you’re going to find it really hard, especially if you don’t have a support system that understands your struggle. Do it together because you will probably be more successful in your fitness ventures.

Set Goals. 

It’s easier to start your fitness journey if you actually have a destination. Myself and Dean have entered the Knysna Half Marathon this year and it is exactly 4 months away. I have done it before but I have been out of the running game for quite some time but having a partner that understands your goals and is willing to push you to your limits is always a plus.

Go For ‘Coffee’.

Often, we will enjoy a nice stroll/run on Seapoint promenade knowing that we will enjoy a nice cup of ‘coffee’ after and I put coffee in inverted commas because I’m not really one for coffee but the prospect of spending quality time and looking forward to an aesthetically pleasing cup of ‘something’ is always rewarding. Often, going for ‘coffee’ is always associated with some sort of bond between two people. Don’t ask me why, it just works. Ever wonder that when a catch up between two people is needed, the phrase, ‘let’s just go for coffee’ is always at the forefront of any ice-breaker?

Plan A Photoshoot.

It’s always rewarding to see all your hard work in a photograph. It makes it that much sweeter and constantly reminds you what you are capable of looking like and feel proud of your achievements.

Support One Another. 

It’s always important to remember that you may not always see the results you want but you should continue to support and motivate one another when all else fails.

Balance.

In most cases, women such as myself are more likely to prefer cardio over strength training but when you are working out with your partner, it is always important to balance and when doing this, you are getting the best of both worlds.In some cases, one partner may be more knowledgable in one field and because of this, you are constantly learning from each other. It also helps you to be open to new kinds of workouts and this variation is always good when working out and seeing results. Myself and Dean LOVE partner exercising. This is when you use each others body to complete an exercise but it’s also important to keep things respectful in public.


 

Working out with your partner can really assist in developing a deeper bond. Your partner becomes more than a lover but also an observer and motivator. It helps to keep things fresh and exciting and you will find that when it’s time that couples usually enter the comfort zone, your comfort zone will be somewhat of a unique one. Your comfort zone will consist of something that is beneficial to the both of you and you will motivate others to do the same. There is nothing more motivating than to see two lovers getting fit and healthy together hence the popular phrase – ‘couple goals’.
