Don’t you just LOVE the versatility of a good black skirt? You can literally conquer the world in it and especially with Cape Town’s borderline schizophrenic behaviour, I’d say it’s a pretty safe option for any sort of weather.

To be honest, I have been looking for a skirt like this one  for a while now and you would think that a skirt so simple would be easy to find right? I love the pleating of this skirt and the ‘stiffness’ of it. It stays in place and it’s almost like an unconventional tutu which in general, is perfect for my body shape. The shape and fit of the skirt also makes it super easy to layer and pair which again lends to its endless versatility. You cant help but feel vibrant and comfortable in it which is ALWAYS important when looking for a piece to invest in and can form part of a ‘basic’ that you could use to elevate your look.

About this look:

I decided to keep this look SUPER simple by just adding a playful pop of colour with my shoes. I also love this olive green body-suit from Topshop because I feel that if you are someone that is used to wearing black, then you can still kind of stay in your comfort zone with this top. I know that this isn’t the typical kind of colour that most of you would go for but it really adds a subtle pop of colour and can make the world of a difference in the overall look. I have also been OBSESSED with these sneakers. They are so comfortable and stylish and can literally change any outfit. Also, I wanted to associate this outfit with a certain level of comfort that can only be achieved by wearing a killer pair of sneakers. Don’t get me wrong, I love my heels too but I feel that you can feel JUST as comfortable in the right pair of sneakers. I also paired it with my favourite pleather jacket which I am sure you have seen in a number of posts by now but that just shows that I truly love it and it can make any outfit look stylish.

How to wear a black skirt:

  • You can always tuck a chambray shirt into the skirt and add some accessories and a pair of heels for a more sophisticated look.
  • You can stick to the casual-chic look by pairing it with a plain white or graphic tee with a pendant necklace.
  • You can go for the more ‘fancy’ look by adding a fitted statement top, a  beautiful pair of block heels and some chunky neck-pieces.
  • Go for the classic look by wearing a striped tee, with some accessories and a bold lip. This look can be worn both with flats or heels but I prefer to wear flats to maximise the level of ‘chicness’.
